Troy Pierce's New EP on Items & Things
Troy Pierce has a brand new EP on the Items & Things label he runs with Magda and Marc Houle. Voodoovoodoo is a four track EP with a Dead Seal remix. The digital release contains two additional remixes by Les Freres Royales and Danny Benedettini.
You can check it out now on Soundcloud. Released on Nov. 14th, you can likely find it anywhere digital and vinyl music is sold.
Slap In The Space is full of shuffling drum beats and minimal sounds that hearken back to typical Minus sounds: The sweeps, the bleeps, and those odd percussion tidbits. The tune's driving bassline resonates for days. This one is easy for the DJ and features great breakdowns and drum fills.
Next Exit Lost Lake contains an eerie start, with driving beats and a sparsely recurring bass sound that increases in frequency as the track progresses. Troy Pierce composed the horror movie dancefloor scene on this tune, which is definitely for the dark techno set.
I Need a Guide includes funkier samples and percussive elements playing around a swinging beat, which is simultaneously sexy and eerie. This tune is more tech-house for the dancefloor than the other two. Pierce adds some rapid handclaps and drum fills to round out the track's beginning moments. After a brief breakdown, the track kicks into high gear with all elements integrated, alongside an undeniable rhythm and steady dancefloor-driving beats. Destroy.
THE REMIXES on this EP are amazing.
The Dead Seal remix of Next Exit Lost Lake is a bit funkier than Troy's version, containing techno-laden elements of deep house. The vocal sample is used more frequently, with heavy echo. This is a great dancefloor mover: Dead Seal keeps the bassline but stretches it out a bit. This doesn't lose any of the original tune's appeal. DJs will likely play both in a single outing.
The Slap In The Space remix by Danny Benedettini is an excellent choice for the EP. This funky downtempo remix includes big bass sounds, infectious rhythm and percussion, and reminds the listener of Swag or early Hardfloor tunes. In a chillout room or lounge setting, this remix is simply perfect. As a set opener, even better.
The Les Freres Royales remix of I Need a Guide is an uptempo techno remix with stuttering percussion and handclaps. The samples derived from the original track make up a few clever hooks and patches, resulting in a sexy combo of deep house and funky techno.
This Danish rock duo just released their debut full length album “Alive In Us,” which was produced by Anders
